Baltimore Orioles
You Can’t Clip These Wings!
The Baltimore Orioles are an American professional baseball team based in Baltimore. The Orioles compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the American League (AL) East division. As one of the American League’s eight charter teams in 1901, the franchise spent its first year as a major league club in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, as the Milwaukee Brewers before moving to St. Louis, Missouri, to become the St. Louis Browns in 1902.
After 52 years in St. Louis, the franchise was purchased in November 1953 by a syndicate of Baltimore business and civic interests led by attorney and civic activist Clarence Miles and Mayor Thomas D’Alesandro Jr. The team’s current owner is American trial lawyer Peter Angelos.

Season’s Outlook
The 2023 season for the Baltimore Orioles is expected to be a transitional year as the team continues to rebuild and develop its young talent. After several years of struggling to compete, the Orioles have focused on their farm system, investing in player development and scouting to build a foundation for future success.
Despite the optimism surrounding the Orioles’ young core, the team is likely to face challenges in a competitive American League East division. They will be up against perennial powerhouses like the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox, who boast strong rosters and financial resources to acquire top-tier talent. The Toronto Blue Jays and Tampa Bay Rays have also made strides in recent years and pose additional obstacles for the Orioles.
Given these factors, it’s reasonable to expect the Orioles to show improvement compared to previous seasons, but a postseason berth might still be out of reach. A realistic prediction for the 2023 Baltimore Orioles would be a fourth-place finish in the American League East, with a win-loss record hovering around .500. The season should be seen as a stepping stone in the rebuilding process, with a focus on player development and laying the groundwork for future success.
History & Tradition
Baltimoreans draw strength from the many stories, moments, victories, and tragedies that have defined our 294-year multi-layered history. A proud, gritty, outspoken community – from Sparrows Point to Park Heights to Hopkins Plaza, the Dundalk Marine Terminal to Mount Vernon, Timonium to Tide Point, and Little Italy to Liberty Heights – that reflects the creativity and resourcefulness of the next generation of Baltimoreans, one whose parents and grandparents poured the steel, repaired the ships, founded the finest universities and greatest hospitals, welcomed the world’s immigrants, and integrated the lunch counters.
There is no “quit” in this place, and when adversity comes, we just start another rally.
